The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has started paying monthly stipends to physically-impaired persons in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement made by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Abubakar Bawa, on Wednesday.
In the statement, Bawa noted that the payment began on Tuesday, 27th June, in three Local Government Areas, Sokoto North, Dange Shuni and Gwadabawa.
He added that the exercise witnessed a large turnout of the already screened physically-impaired persons, who received N6,500 each as their monthly stipends.
According to statement, the monthly stipends would reduce street begging in the state.
Recall, the governor had during one of his campaign rallies promised the people of the state to revive the monthly stipends of the physically impaired persons.
“I also want to assure our Imams, their deputies and adhans across the state of the restoration of their monthly stipends which has equally been stopped by the current administration in the state.” Ahmad said.
