The Nigerian Army, on Sunday, raided a baby factory in Abia state and rescued 22 women out of which 21 are pregnant, including a baby boy and a girl.
The raided baby factory which is said to be situated at Umunkpei Nvosi in Isiala-Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, was operated by an indigene (woman) of the community.
The operation led by the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, on arrival, rescued 22 women out of which 21 are pregnant, including 2 babies.
The Troops raided the factory following a report that stated, the founder and owner of the factory was selling babies to ritualist and some to child traffickers.
According to a member of the troop, the owner is on had escaped before they could apprehend her but effort are ongoing.
The soldiers were led by the Army Public Relations Officer, 14 Brigade Ohafia, Lt Omale Innocent Prince, and the Media Adviser to Governor Alex Otti, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma.
In an interview with the media adviser after the operation, he applauded the military for the operation, stating that there was no justification for why “this kind of thing should be happening in any part of Abia State”.
Ekeoma added that Alex Otti’s administration will sanitise the state, while the government will, in collaboration with the security agencies, conduct a thorough investigation on the matter.
