The two children abducted when their father, Dr. Tiri Gyang, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, was killed by bandits at their residence, have been released by the criminals.
According to VANGUARD report, A source revealed that the bandits initially demanded a N20 million ransom to release the children, Derrick and Caleb, though the exact amount eventually paid remains unclear.
The source further revealed that after the ransom was paid, the bandits released only Caleb, the younger, then demanded two motorcycles and a N200,000 mobile recharge card to release Derrick, the elder of the two brothers.
Following the delivery of the requested items, Derrick was released on Sunday, the source disclosed.
However Associates of the late Dr. Tiri has disclosed that preparations for his burial would soon be concluded following the release of his children.
Meanwhile, fresh details have emerged about the fate of Mallam Garba Funtua, the father of the female student, Aisha, who was kidnapped alongside Dr. Diri’s children.
Garba son disclosed that his father had taken the demanded ransom for Aisha’s release by himself.
Unfortunately, the bandits took him captive and released his daughter after collecting the ransom and later killed him.
Garba’s on Facebook stated that his father was killed by the bandits after paying a N2 million ransom for Aisha’s release.
Part of the Facebook post read: “It is with total submission to the will of Allah (SWT) that I announce the death of my father, Alh. Abubakar Funtua. He was killed by the bandits that kidnapped my sister last month. Jana’iza holds 5/08/2024, at his residence in Gangaren Tasaulawa, Funtua by 9 a.m., inshaAllah. Please pray for his soul.”
