The Delta State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of a kidnap victim from his captors after spending 6 days in their den.
The rescue operation led by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in collaboration with Operatives from Oleh and Ozoro division of the command, saw the rescue of Mr. Francis Okpoughu released from the kidnappers hide out at Ewu Town in Ughelli South.
In a press statement by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, the rescue operation led to the recovery of a Toyota Corolla car, one mobile phone and a cash sum of N120,000 which is suspected to be part of the ransom payment earlier collected from the victims family.
The statement as obtained, reads;
“On the 18th August 2018, at 0820pm, one Francis Okpoughu of No 211 OGBEMUDIA STREET OLEH was rescued from the hands of his captors at EWU TOWN in UGEHILL SOUTH LGA by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in conjunction with the operatives from OLEH and OZORO DIVISION respectively, of the Delta State Police Command.
The operatives arrested one Zion Kelly ‘m’ 20yrs from Ewu Town Ughelli South LGA, who kept guard over the victim.
They also recovered from the kidnap gang, one Toyota corolla car, one big phone and the sum of N120,000 Naira suspected to be part of the ransom earlier collected from the victim’s family.
It would be recalled that the victim Francis Okpoughu was kidnapped by the hoodlums on the 13th August 2018.
Efforts are on to apprehend the remaining members of the kidnap gang.”
