The Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday in Benin City disclosed that it has secured 88 convictions between June 2019 and June 2020 while it recovered the sum of N303,828,641.00 and Seven Thousand US Dollars ($7000) from convicts within the same period.
Head of the Benin office of the EFCC, Dr. Adamu Danmusa who disclosed this at a press briefing to mark the activities of the zone for the past one year, said of the recovered amount, the sum of N274, 507, 723.00 was returned and restituted to the victims of the crime.
According to him, “during the period under review, we received 1,246 petitions out of which 788 were found worthy and approved for investigation.
“A total of 132 cases were forwarded to the Nigerian Police Force, another sister agency as the matters raised in the petition were not within our jurisdiction.
“We are glad to inform you that within the period under review, a total of 125 cases were filled in the court. And due to our diligent investigation and prosecution, we secured 88 convictions.
Also we secured a final forfeiture of a four bedroom bungalow at Ughelli and Petrol filling station in Udu in Delta State. We also secured the final forfeiture of 14 exotic cars, 10 Laptop and 28 Phones which were recovered from fraud stars.
Dr. Danmusa disclosed that as part of the Commission’s plan to nip corruption in the bud and ensure a corrupt free nation, it has embarked on aggressive sensitisation campaign to secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the three states within its jurisdiction.
