The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 47-year-old man for possessing counterfeit naira notes.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest on Friday, to News Agency of Nigeria, noting that the suspect, simply identified as Shola, was arrested on January 17, 2024, at about 6:30 pm, at Apapa Under Bridge, Lagos, after purchasing N7,000 worth of goods at Oba Abdulfatai Aromire Ojora market, Ijora, with fake naira notes.
Hundeyin stated that the suspect was handed over to officers at the Ijora Badia Police Division, where an extra N6,000 in counterfeit currency was seized from him.
The statement read, “The total suspected counterfeit naira notes recovered as exhibit was N13,000. The case was subsequently transferred to state CID, Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation.
“The suspect admitted to the commission of the crime and mentioned where he purchased the suspected counterfeit currencies. The exhibits recovered have been duly registered and efforts are in progress to apprehend other accomplices connected to the crime,” he added.
