A widespread outage struck ChatGPT, the popular AI tool, on Thursday, leaving millions of users unable to access the service due to a “bad gateway” error.
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, the issue began around 7am ET, impacting many users worldwide.
The error suggests a server communication breakdown, where one server received an invalid response from another.
Frustrated users took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions.
“I’m about to get fired. Pray for me,” wrote R (@raghhavvvv), a user who was relying on ChatGPT during work hours.
Others expressed their frustration in a more humorous tone. “ChatGPT is down and I’m forced to use my brain again,” tweeted Shivam Verm (@Shivam_Verma_98).
Dollar Gill (@DollarGill) asked, “Is it just me or is anyone else facing ChatGPT down? #ChatGPT #ChatGPTDown.”
Dr◎g◎ xD (@officialsweetch) echoed the sentiment, saying, “I can’t believe chatgpt is down and I’m forced to use my own brain.”
With 300 million weekly active users and 123.5 million daily active users, ChatGPT has become an essential tool for many.
The disruption has highlighted the platform’s integral role in daily workflows, leaving millions of users stranded and awaiting a resolution.
