Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has offered to pay up to 5,000 Dollars to popular social media creators in the United States who are willing to leave rival platforms.
The company is willing to pay up to $5,000 (£4,040) to influencers who join Facebook and Instagram from “third-party social apps.”
The move is seen as an attempt to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s future in the US. TikTok has 170 million users in the US, many of whom rely on the platform for their livelihoods.
Meta’s “Breakthrough bonus programme” is open to creators who are new to either Facebook or Instagram. To qualify for the payment, creators must post at least 20 reels on Facebook and 10 reels on Instagram within each 30 days during their first 90 days on the app.
The company is looking for original content, stating that the reels must be “original videos, rather than those previously shared on other platforms.” Meta will review applications on a case-by-case basis, and only those accepted into the program will receive the payment.
Meta is offering other perks, including a free subscription to its blue check verification system.
