The West African Examination Council, WAEC, has debunked a document containing a price list for making changes on results.
The amendment price list document that was on wide circulation on Tuesday, September 26, shows WAEC’s name, logo, correction of date of birth pegged at N70,000, while the attestation of result costs N80,000.
Other prices on the list include correction of name (N30,000), correction of gender (N30,000), confirmation of result – international – (N39,000), sealed scratch card (13,000), and confirmation of result – local – (N19,500).
Reacting to the document in circulation, the examination body via a post shared on their official X page on Wednesday, September 27, referred to the document as ‘Fake News’.
The body also noted that, making changes on date of birth is still not entertained.
The post read, “Please note that this document did not emanate from WAEC-Nigeria. The Council still does not entertain requests for date of birth amendment.”
In 2021, WAEC increased its registration fee from N13,950 to N18,000 due to the rising inflation in the country.
Although the body said the worsening inflation rate in the country was to be blamed for the hike in registration fees.
“There has to be that marginal increase to enable us to do better services. The examiners are now happy as we are able to increase their marking fees through this marginal increase,” Patrick Areghan, head of WAEC’s national office, had said.
“The money actually went for the payment of examiners to enable us to satisfy them so that they can do the job better.”
