The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Faraday Orumense has said that the University of Benin remains one of the most sought after tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor stated this Thursday, March 29, 2018 while hosting members of the Edo state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ to an interactive session at the Senate chambers of the university.
He disclosed that the institution has taken giant developmental strides in the last one year.
“The University of Benin in the past one year has taken some developmental strides in the face of seemingly surmountable challenges.
“Guided with determination, hard work, demonstration of an uncommon commitment by the management of the university coupled with the drive to remain on top the list of universities in Sub Sahara Africa.”
Explaining further why the university has remained one of the most sought after tertiary institutions in Nigeria, Prof. Orumense said, “There has been substantial results that this institution remains one of the most sought after tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Worthy of mention is our focus of being ICT driven to bring about great academic and administrative efficiency”.
The Vice-Chancellor also listed the continuous existing peace in the various campuses of the university, improved staff and students welfare, construction of new lecture theatres and renovation of existing ones; provision of twenty four hours e-library amongst others as the reasons why the university has become the preferred choice of students.
Professor Orumense also disclosed that the university has commenced the manufacture of methylated spirits and hydrogen peroxide in commercial quantities.
He thanked members of the press for giving adequate coverage to its activities and sued for its sustainance.
Responding on behalf of journalists, Edo state chairman of NUJ, Sir Roland Osakue assured the Vice-Chancellor and his management team of continuous and adequate coverage of activities of the university.
