A 33-year-old Iranian model, Mahlagha Jaberi has caused a stir on the internet after wearing a black dress, with the neck designed like a noose and an inscription “stop executions” boldly crested on it.
According to Jaberi, she wore the dress to the 76th Cannes Film Festival, to “make a fashion statement” and to draw awareness to the executions happening in Iran, since political statements are not allowed at the film festival.
She added that, securities at Cannes festival stopped her from showing the back of her dress, although the noose was well understood.
The Iranian Model shared a video and picture of it on her Instagram page.
In the video, which involved different close-up shots of the model on the dress, she captioned it “Stop Executions.”
In a follow up post, the model said she wanted to “bring media attention” to the executions in Iran.
She wrote: “We wanted to make a fashion statement to observe the glamour of Cannes, but more importantly, to bring media attention to the wrongful executions of Iranian people.
“Unfortunately, political statements are not allowed at the film festival and the security stopped me from showing the back of my dress, but the ‘noose’ meaning was well understood.”
