…Canvas Support from Federal and Edo State Governments.

The president of the Commonwealth Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele has called on the Federal and Edo state governments to increase their level of support to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH to enable the institution enhance it’s capacity to discharge its functions as a medical reference centre.
Enabulele made the call Friday, while inspecting facilities in UBTH when he paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital as part of the Commonwealth Medical Association’s team to access how institutions are doing with regards to preparedness to combat COVID-19 as well as show the association’s commitment to support government and institutions especially in the face of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The president of the association was conducted round the hospital facilities by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Darlington Obaseki and other Management Staff.
Dr Enabulele inspected the Isolation Centre including the holding ward, the 2 bedded Intensive Care Unit with dedicated Ventilators, the PCR Laboratory (where COVID-19 tests are to be carried out) amongst other places relevant for the management of COVID-19.
He also ascertained the level of compliance in terms of availability and usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by health workers especially those in the frontline of the battle against COVID-19 in the hospital.
While commending the Management of the Hospital for work done so far, Dr. Enabulele encouraged the CMD and his Management team to sustain the good work and called on other public health institutions to come around and see what UBTH has done with regards to effective management of resources and creativity which they may wish to replicate in their centres as it is necessary to display what is working in different centres.
The president of the Commonwealth Medical Association promised to support the hospital in his official capacity adding that the association is also thinking of how to stabilize the health systems of member states even in the post COVID-19 era.
