Medical doctors in Cross River State have embarked on an indefinite strike over the abduction of their colleague from her residence in Calabar, on Thursday, July 13.
This was announced in a communique signed by the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Cross River branch, Dr Felix Archibong, issued after an emergency general meeting held by the doctors on Sunday in Calabar.
Recall that on Thursday 13th July, a medical practitioner with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Dr Ekanem Ephraim, was kidnapped from her residence by armed men who pretended to be patients.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the incident happened at around 7.30pm.
And all effort made for her release so far has proven abortive.
Hence, the association resolved to “embark on a total and indefinite withdrawal of medical services effective immediately in solidarity with our member still in the hands of her abductors.
“This withdrawal of medical service will involve all hospitals in the state, including federal, state, private and mission”.
They further urged the state governments to activate all instruments at their disposal to ensure the timely release of their colleague.
NAN also noted that this was not the first time the association would embark on a strike on account of the abduction of its member in Cross River.
