Twitter’s head of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, has confirmed she had resigned from the company, on Friday.
This is coming after Elon Musk endorsed an anti-transgender video shared on the platform.
Irwin in a bid to clear the air, confirmed her resignation through a tweet.
She wrote, “I know there’s been a lot of speculation regarding what happened, Was I fired? Did I quit? Why?? Here’s what really happened:
“In all seriousness, I did resign but this has been a once in a lifetime experience and I’m so thankful to have worked with this amazing team of passionate, creative and hardworking people. Will be cheering you all and Twitter as you go! she added, without disclosing the reason for suddenly leaving her job at Twitter.”
Lately, Musk has repeatedly courted controversy, sacking most of its staff, readmitting banned accounts to the platform, suspending journalists and charging for previously free services.
During an interview with CNBC in May, Musk said, he will continuously tweet his unfiltered thoughts even if it hurts his business.
His words, “I don’t care, I’ll say Vn what I want to say and if the consequence of that is losing money, so be it.”
Irwin’s departure came as Twitter was under pressure by backers of an anti-transgender video called “What Is A Woman” who claimed Twitter went back on a deal to distribute the content free on the platform.
Musk posted the video with the caption, “Every parent should watch this”
Meanwhile, backers of the video contended the video was being suppressed at Twitter for not using people’s chosen pronouns when it came to gender identification.
