A black U.S rapper and entrepreneur, Sean Combs, also known by his stage names P. Diddy, has sued Diageo for neglecting and treating his Vodka and tequila brands as inferior products.
Diageo plc which is a British multinational alcoholic beverage company, received a lawsuit, filed at New York Supreme Court in Manhattan, by Combs with claims that Diageo North America had deprived Combs’s Ciroc vodka and DeLeon tequila assets.
According to Combs, Diageo leadership told him that his race was part of the reasons his products distribution are limited to urban neighbourhoods.
He added that some Diageo leaders resented him for making too much money.
The lawsuit reads, “Cloaking itself in the language of diversity and equality is good for Diageo’s business, but it is a lie.
“While Diageo may conspicuously include images of its black partners in advertising materials and press releases, its words only provide the illusion of inclusion.”
Although, Diageo denied allegations of racism. “This is a business dispute, and we are saddened that Mr Combs has chosen to recast this matter as anything other than that.
“While we respect Mr Combs as an artist and entrepreneur, his allegations lack merit, and we are confident the facts will show that he has been treated fairly.”
