Ángela Rodríguez, second-in-command in Spain’s ministry of equality, has revealed plans to create a free app that will tell wives if their men are doing housework as them.
She announced this, while speaking at a convention for the committee on the elimination of discrimination against women (Cedaw) in Geneva.
The new app intends to address the gender imbalance of housework, it will also log the number of hours a wife/husband spends doing chores.
According to ‘The Times’, the minister claimed that women spent more time doing house chores, therefore dims it fit to balance it by tracking the amount of time both sexes spend on house chores.
Rodrìguez said, “We women spend more time on domestic tasks than men,”
She added that the design of the program would be “bold” and it would be capable of tracking the progress of a variety of domestic tasks, thus reflecting the “mental burden” that housework and caring duties entail.
She continued that, “the app, which is part of the Spanish government’s “co-responsibility plan”, is yet to be released.
“The usage will not be limited to those in relationships, said Rodríguez, who believes it will be useful for “sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, or those of us who live with flatmates or life partners where an unequal distribution sometimes also exists.
The government has opened bidding for which company will produce the app, with a budget of €211,000 (£183,000).
