The Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty, Benjamin Ikenchukwu, Keagborekuzi 1, has called on government at all levels to tackle corruption as well as insecurity in the country.
The monarch made this call during a media interaction with Journalists of the Indigenous Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council on Monday, 3rd July at his Palace in Agbor-Obi.
The Dein of Agbor who condemned the level of corruption in Nigeria, said it should be tackled from the federal level down to the grassroots.
He said, “Especially at the federal level, we need to tackle corruption. We are just playing with ourselves if we continue to think that we will change government on the spot, such decisions are not taken when it concerns corruption.”
The Monarch went on to question about the natural resources of the country, stating that oil is not the only that Nigeria has.
According to him, “Oil is not the only thing that we have, it is one of the least things that we have.
“I want to know what is happening to our gold. We have minerals that are valuable and we have it in quantity, where is it? I will like to see all our minerals brought unto the federal books.
“Let’s not bring them onboard to the detriment of the local environment, we need all the mining and mineral researching and resourcing in such a way that it does not destroy the local environment.”
“The money belongs to all Nigerians, It should be shared, “the Monarch added.
Obi Keagborekuzi 1 while appreciating President Tinubu, urged his advisers not to push him too much, adding that they should avoid putting him in a situation where he moves so fast and then stop correcting some mistakes, he also encouraged the masses to give him time.
“Let’s give him time, Let’s encourage him”
In the same light, the Monarch said that insecurity in Nigeria needs to be tackled, adding that for the country to regain lost investors, insecurity must be tackled.
The monarch also expressed displeasure at the level at which the educational standard of Nigerian Universities has dropped and urged the government to make sure that educational system is brought back to a standard as it in the past.
Meanwhile, the Monarch enjoined the President to give the Igbos opportunity to be the manufacturing home of the country.
“Mr. President give them (Igbos) that chance, allow the east to become our manufactory home.”
The Monarch further implored Nigerians to respect traditional institutions while berating the negative representation of the institution on Nollywood movies.
He commended the journalists and urged them to stay true to their watchdog duty.
