By Michael Odiah,
In a time when the country and the entire world is facing a severe health risk due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, today gathered hundreds of Deltans and visitors to commission the recently revived Maryam Babangida Way in Asaba.
However, precautionary measures were not taken as the seats were not given social distance, no hand sanitizers at sight and hand-held infrared thermometers were not used at the scene which had more than a hundred persons including foreign contractors, dignitaries from different parts of the country and above all the Governor of Sokoto state, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and his entourage.
At the inauguration of the rehabilitated road, Governor Okowa fondly called the road master said “the road we are about to commission is a very important road to Asaba and Deltans in extension, as it houses a lot that concerns governance in the state like the Secretariat, old and new still under construction, the state library and many other facilities on this road”.
While commending SETRACO, the company which executed the road project and the state ministry of works for a job well done, Okowa said “most importantly, business that had gone under due to the past state of this road, are now able to stay afloat and stand strong at this time”.
On his part, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said, “I must say that I’m indeed delighted to be in Asaba today with my senior brother, the Governor of Delta state to commission a very key project in this state. I’m also here to convey my regards from the good loving people of Sokoto state, we are indeed brothers in one big family.”
“I say that the governor is comprehensively delivering good governance and not only a road master, as the state is far ahead of so many states in all ramifications, taking cognizance of early payments of salaries, and has provided leadership in all sides both politically all and sundry”, Tambuwal added.
Continuing with the commendations, the Sokoto State Governor also said, “we are very proud of you, and I’m happy to be here and to also hear that this road is in memory of our sister, daughter, mother and friend, and may her soul rest in peace.”
