Federal High Court sitting in Kano has declared that the dethroned Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero has jurisdiction to be heard.
The high court judge, Justice Liman Mohammed stated that his court has the authority to consider the lawsuit brought by Danagundi on behalf of HRH Aminu Ado.
The Judge determined that the applicants’ assertions were based on violations of basic rights rather than chieftaincy matters. On this basis, his court possesses the inherent authority to consider, listen to, and come to conclusions.
Recall that, Bayero was deposed as the Emir of Kano on May 23, 2024, following the repeal of the Kano Emirate Council Law 2019, which split the Kano emirate into five.
The Kano State House of Assembly repealed the 2019 law, thus scrapping the five emirates created under former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
However, the 15th Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, rejected his dethronement and continued to lay claim to the ancient stool while operating from a mini palace at Nasarawa.
