…NBA Task Force Frees Food at Mobile Court
There was pandemonium at Oredo Mobile Court holding at Urhokpota hall Monday, May 18, 2020 as some Police Officers attached to the Edo State Covid-19 regulations enforcement team at the Urhokpota hall molested a lawyer and State Counsel, Ama Iyamu Esq. from the state Ministry of Justice who is also the state prosecuting counsel at the Mobile Court.
Led by the Officer in Charge of the Police enforcement team, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and one Agatha, also a Police woman attached to the team, the Policemen attacked Ama Iyamu Esq for daring to question some of the alleged illegal activities of the team ranging from arrests of some individuals not covered by the state Governor’s proclamation, food stuffs raid in the markets amongst other infractions.
The Policemen led by one Agatha also attacked the Financial Secretary of State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lucky Isibor covering members of the Benin branch of the Nigeria Bar Association Task Force on Protection of Human Rights in the Covid-19 Regulations Enforcement, who was answering a phone call apparently thinking he was recording the ugly and shameful scene, destroying his medicated eye glasses in the process.
The leader of the Police team also attempted to attack the chairman of the NBA Task Force, Matthew Edaghese Esq while attempting to rescue a member of the NBA and state prosecutor attached to the mobile court, Ama Iyamu Esq.
A reliable source who craved anonymity at Urhokpota hall told Summit News that the state counsel was attacked as a decoy to ensure she did not discover the goods being meant to be allegedly shared by the Policemen. The goods were later carted away in a Nissan mini bus (Tuke Tuke) with registration number BEN 332 ZU.
Warning the Police team of such misconduct in future, the presiding magistrate who was notified of the behaviour of the Police by Matthew Edaghese, the chairman of NBA Task Force, disclosed that she started the court sitting late because of the disorganized nature of the court as she has to order the maintenance of the court devoid of seized food items.
Recall that the Edo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe had earlier warned members of the Covid-19 Regulations Enforcement team to stop seizing food items as the items lacks the capacity to breach government regulations on the prevention of Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, members of the NBA Task Force set free one Miss Aduwa Omoyemwen who was arrested with a wheel barrow containing food stuffs enroute Emokpae Primary School on Mission road where Oba Market traders are relocated. The prosecution counsel made an oral application for withdrawal of the case. The court had to strike out the case as the NBA Task Force member representing the girl did not object.
