Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu has commended Arise Television for organising a debate for gubernatorial candidates in the state.
Aniagwu who made this commendation while briefing journalists on Thursday, March 16, in Asaba, however, faulted the timing of the debate which he said rather came late and triggered the absence of the state ruling party’s gubernatorial candidate due other engagements.
“We value debates, we value interface, what Arise did was right to engage a debate but the timing wasn’t convenient for us to take advantage of that very auspicious event.” Aniagwu stated.
He noted that the absence of the PDP’s candidate, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori “paved way for others to tell stories that demonstrates that they are not even in touch with Deltans. Apart from Gbagi, the others just want to go on a charade on TV. Some, their political parties don’t even know them. They have not been campaigning and with their stories it is obvious they have not been in touch with Deltans. You can see the difference between Ogboru an old war horse in the house.
“We commend Arise TV for the platform though the invitation did not come in time as we were busy revamping and repairing what appears to have been altered as seen in the presidential election.”
“Yes we can’t claim we are Jesus Christ, but we have tried our best to ensure that development goes round. Recall in 2019, 23 LGAs voted massively for Okowa, yet we ensured that development went round the state and today, we have two commissioners from Ughelli North and other places were PDP had lost elections. Those churning out lies just want to score cheap political points.”
While emphasizing on the choice of Sheriff Oborevwori as PDP’s candidate, the Commissioner said “we have produced and showcased a candidate that is a core Deltan and in touch with the grassroots. He is going to continue in the steps of Okowa and can’t be compared to other candidates that are sectional.”
Also Speaking on the aftermath of the debate, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okowa, Olise Ifeajika added that, “it’s been a series of lies from the pit of hell. You saw Gbagi how he denied yesterday what the whole world knows that he dehumanised women, for Gbagi that we know, he’s a serial liar, he lied that the former AG apologized to him on TV.”
“Besides that, all of them displayed gross ignorance on the health insurance scheme already in place in Delta with over one million enrollees, comprising of civil servants amongst others.”
