The Director General, Delta State Traffic Maintenance Agency (DESTMA) Mr Stephen Dieseruvwe has said that the agency was not formed to make money for the government but to help uphold the law as concerns traffic rules in extension safety of motorists and peace in the state.
The DG made this stance during a chat with journalists adding that he is a man who believes in peaceful resolution in all ramifications in life.
Dieseruvwe appealed that motorists should stop seeing the agency as an extortionist venture that preys on women or people driving flashy cars, but as an agency that was initiated to prosecute traffic offenders and also curb traffic offenders.
He further added that motorists should desist from acting awfully to its officials in form of oral abuses and even physical confrontations. “Just as we witnessed Today, Wednesday, January 3, 2017 when an evasive driver slightly caused an accident in the cause of evading the law which in some cases, all things being equal with a common ground reached, might have led to a peaceful resolution if only the driver of the vehicle had stopped when he was flagged.”
Dieseruvwe submitted that it is not the agency versus Deltans but the agency working with Deltans to make the traffic situation better in the state and in extension ensure safety on wheels.
