The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has closed down an eatery, KFC at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos for alleged discrimination against a disabled person.
This is coming few days after Debola Daniel, the son of former Ogun State governor and a serving Senator, Gbenga Daniel accused the eatery located at the Airport of alleged discrimination due to his physical challenge.
According to AIT report, In a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, on Thursday, stated that the action is in line with the provisions of the Lagos State laws on People with Special Needs.
The statement particularly quotes Part C, Section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination which states that, “A person shall not deprive another person of access to any place, vehicle or facility that members of the public are entitled to enter or use on the basis of the disability of that person”.
FAAN said it became necessary to take such action after it received the report of the alleged incident and intervened swiftly by deploying a Management team to investigate.
The Airport Authority noted that It is based on the findings of the team that FAAN shut down the KFC facility at the MMIA, where the incident occurred.
FAAN also instructed the KFC Management to tender an unreserved apology in writing, to the affected person with reduced mobility (PRM).
Daniel had on his social media handle shared his experience while at the MMIA with his family members to buy lunch when he witnessed the incident.
