A former governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Delta State, Barr. Kenneth Gbagi FNIM, OON, has debunked circulating rumour that stipulates that the former head of state of Nigeria, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), passed away on Monday, October 9.
Gbagi condemned the rumor through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Orusi Kenneth, on Monday October 9th 2023, noting that General Gowon is ‘hale and hearty’.
According to Gbagi, the elder statesman is alive and well and currently in London. He said he had just spoken with him and confirmed his well-being.
“General Gowon is still much around with us, hale and hearty. He is not in a hurry to go anywhere. He has communicated to Nigerians that he is still much around, hale and hearty. Gowon is alive”, Gbagi said.
Gbagi urged Nigerians to ignore the fake news about Gowon’s death and pray for his continued good health and long life.
He further advised the public to be wary of spreading false information that could cause panic and confusion in the country.
Meanwhile, the Eagle Online findings has revealed that it is the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Niger State University, Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo, that passed on not General Yakubu.
