Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has expressed his deep condolences to Seplat Energy Limited following the collapse of its ‘Majestic’ oil rig near Ovhor Oilfield in Sapele Local Government Area of the State. The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, resulted in the loss of one life, while three others are reported as missing.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, on Wednesday in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori characterized the incident as a sorrowful event and extended his sympathies to both the company and the family members of the deceased.
The Governor appealed to Seplat Energy Limited to urgently initiate efforts to locate the missing crew members and to launch an investigation into the circumstances that led to the collapse of the oil rig.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of your oil rig’s unfortunate collapse while en route to a designated drilling site. The loss of one crew member, with three others still unaccounted for, is truly disheartening,” said Governor Oborevwori.
“On behalf of the Delta State Government and its citizens, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to Seplat Energy Limited over the distressing incident involving the Majestic oil rig, resulting in the tragic demise of one individual and the unconfirmed whereabouts of three crew members.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the three crew members whose fate is yet unknown, as well as the grieving family and friends of the crew member who tragically lost his life.”
The Governor urged the company’s management to redouble their efforts in the search and rescue operation for the missing crew members. He further urged Seplat Energy Limited to initiate a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the goal of preventing similar incidents in the future.
“It is imperative that the company expedites its rescue mission for the missing crew members and conducts a comprehensive investigation into the events leading up to this regrettable incident, in order to avert its recurrence,” Governor Oborevwori emphasized.
