Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady, following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.
This decision according to the governor, aims to continue her legacy, particularly her pet project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).
During Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s condolence visit to the Eno family, Governor Eno announced his daughter’s new role, stating, “It is not an easy task ahead, but I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.” He expressed confidence in Helen’s ability to uphold her mother’s values and vision.
Senator Tinubu praised the governor’s decision, calling it “a thoughtful way to sustain Patience’s legacy, much like practices in the United States.” She also encouraged Helen, saying, “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. I believe God will guide you.”
Governor Eno reflected on his deep bond with his late wife, describing her as his “greatest supporter and toughest critic.” He jokingly dismissed rumors of remarrying, saying, “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price.”
As Acting First Lady, Helen will coordinate the First Lady’s office and its programs, ensuring the continuation of her mother’s legacy. This move demonstrates Governor Eno’s commitment to sustaining his late wife’s initiatives and projects.
