The Kano Hisbah Board’s Commander General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has resigned from his position.
Daurawa tendered his resignation via a short video clip shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, March 1.
He resigned within 24 hours of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf criticizing the Hisbah’s new approach to combating immorality in the state.
Governor Yusuf addressed Ulama at the Government House on Thursday, specifically expressing disapproval of the practice of invading public places in the name of arresting prostitutes, deeming it uncivilized.
Governor Yusuf also frowned at Hisbah’s methods of arresting suspects, insisting the board must review its present operations to correct the wrongs in society.
In his reaction to Governor Yusuf’s critique, Daurawa explained that the Hisbah board, under his stewardship, has embarked on a series of activities to correct the immorality being perpetrated in society, especially by social media influencers.
According to Sheikh Daurawa, Hisbah has done what he believes is right and under the tenets of Islam.
He, however, mentioned his intention to resign from his position and expressed good wishes to the governor and his administration.
