Delta State Government has terminated the contract for the Development and Management of Lander Brothers’ Anchorage, Asaba, following the failure of Jabi Boat Club to honour its own side of the agreement.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, October 16, signed by the Director of Public Communication, Theresa Adiabua Oliko titled, ‘Termination of Concersion Agreement for the Development and management of Lander Brothers’ Anchorage’.
According to the statement, the idea of taking up the development and management of Lander Brothers’ Anchorage was birthed to enhance tourism in the state, but has failed following the inability of the contractor to execute its own part of the bargain.
The statement reads, “It is hereby announced for the information of the public, particularly Deltans, that the Delta State Government has revoked the concession agreement in the Development and Management of Lander Brothers’ Anchorage, Asaba.
“The state government decided to revoke the agreement following the abysmal failure of Jabi Boat Club, the entity to which the anchorage was concessioned, to evacuate its own side of the agreement.
“It would be recalled that in a bold move to revamp the tourism sector of the state, the immediate past administration entered into an agreement with Jabi Boat Club in 2021 to develop and manage the Lander Brothers’ Anchorage, a seaside recreation facility at the bank of the River Niger.
“This was done with the intention of adding value to the state capital and creating a world class relaxation facility for the good people of Delta State.”
Oliko added that the Directorate of Culture and Tourism is already conducting a fresh bid to engage a company with capacity to develop lander Brothers’.
“In that spirit, having duly terminated the agreement with Jabi Boat Club, the Directorate of Culture and Tourism is in the process of conducting a fresh bid to engage a company with the capacity to develop and manage the Lander Brothers’ Anchorage which is situated in the heart of the state capital”, the statement added.
