The National Association of Seadogs, Arabella Deck partnered with Aqua Kanata Deck in Canada and their surrounding communities to celebrate World Environment Day in Nigeria.
The goal of the event was to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainability. Representatives from various local and national organizations came together to make a positive difference.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Ehikioya Uduebor, President of the Arabella Deck of the National Association of Seadogs, welcomed everyone and explained that the event was a combination of their yearly Feast of Barracuda and a World Environment Day celebration. He highlighted their focus on cleaning up the community, managing waste, reducing plastic use, and planting trees in the Federal Housing Estate, Iguosa, which had been affected by erosion.
Abiah Ufokobong Samuel, representing the Head of Operations for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Edo State, commended the Association for their initiative. He said it was the first event of its kind he had seen since arriving in the state, and because of their efforts to mitigate environmental disasters, he would recommend the National Association of Seadogs as a key partner in state disaster management.
A representative from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) also spoke about the importance of tree planting and their intention to collaborate with the Association on disaster management efforts.
Aina Maria Adedeji, Vice President of the Residents Association of the Federal Housing Estate, welcomed everyone and expressed her enthusiasm about the tree planting project, which she believes will help address environmental problems.
NEMA representatives presented a contingency document to the Association’s president. In a display of unity, leaders from the Association, NEMA, SEMA, and the Residents Association planted trees within the Estate, including canopy trees, Christmas trees, and palm trees.
Seadogs also participated in environmental cleaning activities throughout the day, furthering their commitment to environmental conservation. They planted trees in areas prone to erosion to help prevent soil erosion and landslides.
World Environment Day is a worldwide event that encourages individuals, organizations, and governments to take action to protect our planet and ensure a sustainable future.
To promote a clean environment, Barr. Henry Amaechi Nwazor was awarded 10,000 naira for having the most environmentally friendly property in the Estate.
