The Federal Government’s move to switch back to the old national anthem has sparked diverse reactions among citizens throughout the nation.
Recall that SUMMIT NIGERIA on Wednesday, May 29, reported that President Bola Tinubu signed a bill returning the old National Anthem into law.
This decision marks a shift from the anthem “Arise, O Compatriots,” which has been in use since 1978, to “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”.
“Nigeria, We Hail Thee” was the country’s anthem from its independence in 1960 until 1978, when it was replaced by “Arise, O Compatriots.”
However, the decision has caused a stire among Nigerians who believe that a new national anthem is the least of the problems in the country.

Shehu Sani wrote, “Nigeria is facing serious economic and security challenges but it’s prioritising changing its national anthem. We have bacterial infection,we opted for Prada fragrance instead of Penicillin.”
Engr. Ira Habib on X wrote, “It’s the individual mindset that needs to be changed, not the National Anthem, if we truly want to progress as a nation.”
