The tripartite committee comprising of labour leaders, government officials, and the organised private sector are expected to conclude negotiations on the new minimum wage today, June 10, 2024.
The Organised Labour Congress leaders are eagerly awaiting President Bola Tinubu’s response to their proposal of N250,000 as new minimum wage.
Meanwhile, the President has directed the finance minister to present the cost implications of the proposed wage review to guide negotiations.
Recall that the labour leaders had set a Monday, June 3, deadline for finalizing discussions on the new minimum wage.
After several meetings held by the tripartite committee, the organized Labour pegged N250,000 while the committee stated that they can’t go beyond N62,000.
According to report, the President of the Nigera Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, along with other senior union representatives, traveled abroad to attend a labor conference hosted by the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
The labour leaders will convene their National Executive Council meeting upon their return from Geneva to make a decision regarding the strike, taking into account the input from the president.
