The Governor of Niger state, Umaru Bago, has demolished the Chanchaga Police Station in Minna, the state capital.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Digital Communications, Abdullberqy Ebbo, made this known in a statement.
The Governor had on May 29th, during his inaugural speech, said that the first assignment he is handing out is to demolish the police station, giving reasons that the police station was obstructing the water pipeline, and added that it was illegally constructed.
In the statement, Ebbo stated that the police station, which is located opposite the state water board, was illegally constructed out of clear disregard for planning regulations.
He stated that, “The building does not have the required approval and was sitting on a major water pipeline.
“Gov. Mohammed Umaru Bago, who has placed provision of potable drinking water as part of his agenda, will do everything within his power as the governor to provide water for his people.”
It was gathered that the state government has also issued warning that organisations, institutions and individuals must obtain approval from relevant authorities in the state before erecting building.
