The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has gone into self-isolation, following his close contact with the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Muhammed and Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari just as the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Frank Okiye has tested positive to the dreaded COVID-19 virus.
Abba Kyari and Bala Mohammed have both tested positive for coronavirus, sending jitters into the spines of their close aides, friends and associates.
Briefing news men on the situation of COVID-19 in Edo State Wednesday, March 25, the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu said the Governor has sent his samples for testing.
“Following his close contact with the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed and chief of staff to the president, Abba Kyari who have both tested positive for Coronavirus, Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has gone into self-isolation. The Governor has sent his sample for testing.
“The index case of the Coronavirus case in Edo State is the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Frank Okiye. He travelled to the United Kingdom, came back and self-isolated. He sent his sample for testing and the test came back positive. He is in stable condition. His family members have been tested and the tests came back negative.”
He added that the Governor has maintained social distance in all his engagements since his return from Abuja.
“Since the Governor came back from Abuja, he has maintained social distance even in the meetings he has maintained social distance, he has not had any hand shake with us even in the meetings he maintained that distance, took a bow to greet everybody”.
Shaibu said of the one hundred and eleven persons currently under contact track, the state committee on COVID-19 has been able to establish contact with sixty four while blood sample of five out of six persons have been sent for testing.
The Deputy Governor further reiterated the state government’s ban on gathering of not more than 20 persons, adding that markets remain closed excepts for those selling essential commodities such as food and drugs
