The Benin Monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin has admonished traditional rulers to remain non-partisan and learn to continually play fatherly role to politicians.
Omo N’Oba gave the advice when he played host to His Royal Highness, the Onojie of Uromi, who was in the palace with a large entourage of prominent sons and daughters of Uromi on a thank you visit to Oba Ewuare II for the indispensable fatherly role he played in ensuring the restoration of His Royal Highness, Zaiki Anselm Aidonojie II, the Onojie of Uromi to his throne.
The Oba of Benin said as royal fathers, traditional rulers are expected to pray for the emergence of political leadership that would respect the traditional institutions and effectively tackle and manage public resources for the benefit of the society and eliminate poverty among the people.
His Royal Majesty assured that as father and foremost traditional ruler in Edo State, he will not disappoint or relent in giving sense of direction to the people.
While felicitating with the Onojie of Uromi on his re-instatement as Onojie, Oba Ewuare II appreciated the state government for being magnanimous by putting the ugly past behind.
Speaking earlier, His Royal Highness, Zaiki Anselm Eidonojie II, the Onojie of Uromi said he is overwhelmed with joy and excitement.
He informed the Omo N’Oba that his mission to the palace was to appreciate the Oba for his pivotal role in resolving the initial intractable problem he had with the Edo State Government. The Onojie postulated that through the action of Omo N’Oba, he has further demonstrated that he is indeed a compassionate father with a heart of gold.
He pledged his unalloyed loyalty and support as well as that of the people of Uromi to the leadership of the Oba of Benin.
The Oba took time to watch the superlative acrobatic performance by the Esan Igbabonelimi masquerade that came along with the Onojie of Uromi.
