A post shared on X by Nigerian Immigration Service has stirred reactions from Netizens who claim that they are rudely treated by the officers.
The post shared has to do with immigration officials in Osun state warmly welcoming and attending to Adedeji Adeleke, dad of superstar singer and afrobeats crooner, David Adeleke, better known as ‘Davido’.
NIS post read, “Earlier today, Elder Adedeji Adeleke (@davido’s dad) was at our Osun State Command (Passport Office) for his capturing. He was warmly received by Comptroller Bolu Bewaji.”
Netizens reacting to this, ask why their own fathers are not given similar treatment when they throng passport offices across the land to renew, apply for, or retrieve passports.
One of the users, Yemi Fawale @yomiyoyo26 wrote, “Great! However, it is not fair how common Nigerians are treated most especially at the passport services centre in Lagos. I mean since May 16th 2023, when I had myself captured my passport is yet ready.”
Omo Kogi @oladapomikky1 wrote, “His passport will be ready latest tomorrow, but an average nigerian will take 7 months to be called for capturing and maybe another 7 months with Abeg to get his passport.”
Young Pac @richiedet, “the swift and easy process should be carry out across the nation to avoid frustrating citizens and choking the office with queues cause of ineffectiveness of supply of Passports.”
Meanwhile, in August, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the new minister of interior, charged officials to ensure that Nigerians no longer queue endlessly for travel passports.
“Nigerians should not have to queue endlessly to get passports. No, this must stop. This is not the Nigeria of our dreams. I need to know the challenges the agency is facing.”
