The newly sworn- in Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye, has said that the 7th assembly under his leadership will bring the state government closer to Edo people by working assiduously to complement Governor Godwin Obaseki’s effort in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Rt. Hon. Okiye made the assertion Tuesday, June 18, 2019, while feeding questions from newsmen in his office in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
He said the state governor is doing excellently well and that, he deserves their overwhelming support to put the state in the right economic perspective.
“We are very determined and in high spirit to hit the ground running.
“The job we are doing will not be completed without the complement of the executive.”
While asserting that the governor is delivering on his electoral promises to Edo people, Okiye said, “I subscribe to the fact that the governor is doing well and we will partner with him along that line to do better.
“We will get the government closer to the people, we will think among ourselves and associates like we are inviting you to be part of us to do the good job.
“So, if we all partner with ourselves not only to advice the executive through motions and bills but to be able to complement and encourage him to do more.
“So, the betterment of Edo State in terms of economic and security is our focal point and we intend to address that headlong”.
The Speaker said the 7th assembly will be different from the former as its bent on getting closer to the people at the grassroots in order to feel their pulses and formulate policies that will improve on their wellbeings.
“I know we will be up to the challenges. The business of lawmaking for good governance in Edo State is very precise.
“So, what we will keep doing is never to allow the gap between the house members and their constituency exist anymore.
“We are very confident that once the gap is bridged, we will be able to feel directly the pulses from our local constituents and make sure it gets to the center for attention.
“So, we are conscious that business of transmitting raw materials from members of our constituencies to get the attention at the center is not an easy one, but we are prepared to deal with the complexities that are associated with it”, he assured.
Honourable Frank Okiye who represents Esan North-East constituency 1, was elected Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly Monday by members after the Clerk of the House Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai read the proclamation from Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Also elected was Hon. Yakubu Idiaye from Akoko-Edo constituency 1, as Deputy Speaker.
