The 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has assured the people of Delta State of the his commitment towards the resuscitating of the moribund sea ports in the state as well as quick completion of the second Niger bridge if voted to power.
Alhaji Abubakar made this pledge on Thursday, January 31, 2019, during the PDP Presidential rally in Delta, saying, “My commitments to Delta state is that ‘ I will reactivate all the ports in Delta state and all the infrastructural projects that has been abandoned by the federal government. I will complete them’, because you have been loyal to PDP and we will reward your loyalty completely, you see the second Niger bridge, we will complete it.”
Taking a swipe at the federal government under the All Progressives Congress, APC, the PDP presidential candidate emphasized that they have failed in delivering the dividends of democracy.to Nigerians in the last three years pointing that, the APC government is just pouring sands on the bank of the River Niger to deceive Nigerians.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar commended the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his giant strides and promised to give him an award. “Now my brothers and sisters, you see your governor, he is one of the best governors that this country has produced and shortly he will receive the prize of best governors in the country”.
In his address, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki who also doubles as the Director-General, PDP Presidential Campaign Council, also commended Governor Okowa for his steadfast positive input in the state and urged Deltans to massively vote for Alhaji Atiku and PDP.
The Senate President said, “I want to first congratulate the governor for giving the people of Delta state this beautiful stadium, so you see when a man Sabi, him they perform; your governor they perform. People of Delta state it is in 15 days time that you have to come out and vote.”
“They told us they will make the economy better, is it better now? what about security, are you sucered now? The youths where are the jobs they promised? My people of Delta this is a man that can give you job, but government alone cannot give you jobs, but the person that can facilitate jobs for industries to come in is atiku, investors can not come in when the government does not respect rule of law. So come out en masse and vote Atiku, because he is the only one man that can take us to where we need to go as a country.” Saraki charged.
Lending his voice on the call for Deltans to rallied round Atiku, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, said, “We are here so you can see your incoming president and vice president, which by virtue of this recent interview on NTA, you can see that he is indeed a president that can engage issues of the country with evident positive results and you can see that Atiku is a man with strength and not a man that is not aware of anything in his government. The time has come when we need a man who will be in charge and not cabals that evidently wants to bring in their own CJN and run Nigeria like a family affair.”
Prince Secondus further stated that, “We know there is pressure from the Federal Government on INEC to rig the election, but if they want peace they should not rig the election. To the security agencies, they should be neutral else that which they seek; they will find because, all Nigerian votes must count, so we can vote out a man who has brought disgrace to the country as evident in his campaigns, interview and meetings outside the country and has directly and otherwise brought unimaginable sufferings to our land.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Governor of Delta state, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, described Deltans as a peace loving people, noting that in the past three years of his administration, “we have been building bridges of robust and sustainable peace in the state”, adding that “we want to reassure you that we are prepared for the election taking place on the 16th of February and 2nd of March, and we are prepared to secure our votes and deliver our results.”
