Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called for unity among leaders and faithful of the People Democratic Party (PDP) as 2019 electioneering activities heats up.
Speaking Friday, August 24, 2018 in Isiokolo, Ethiope East Local Government area during an empowerment programme organised by the member representing the area in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Evance Ivwurie, Governor Okowa said leaders of the party must partner with other segments of the PDP to present a united and formidable front as it prepares for the 2019 elections, pointing out that members of the party who worked hard for victory should be recognised and rewarded.
The Governor said he was not afraid of the 2019 general elections because he was convinced that his administration enjoyed the support of the people, adding that government had been in constant touch with the people at the grassroots through its development projects.
He said he would be distracted by negative comments from some quarters, but would remain focus on the development of the state and called on PDP faithful to work hard and committed to secure victory of the party and convince members of other political parties to decamp to the PDP.
While reminding party faithful in Ethiope East local government area to brace up for the task of securing victory for the party in the general elections, Senator Okowa expressed optimism that with the level of developmental projects of his administration in the area victory was certain for the PDP.
Governor Okowa commended the lawmaker for the empowerment programme for the people of his constituency, particularly party faithful and called on other law makers to follow suit, adding that the state assembly had lived above board in the making of laws which had impacted on the lives of the people.
Honourable Evance Ivwurie in his address, said over one thousand five hundred people would be empowered with grinding machines, sewing machines, generating sets, motorcycles and cash of over six million naira.
Other speakers at the occasion which included the state PDP Chairman, Barrister Kingsley Esisio and other leaders of the party in the area said Ethiope east would deliver all the party’s candidates in next year’s election, describing the gubernatorial election as a done deal for the party.
