The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to investigate last Saturday, 29th August, 2020 alleged attack on its members by the campaign convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
No fewer than sixteen persons, including a 78 years old man were said to have sustained severe gun shot injuries in the attack at Ekpe and Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
In a press briefing at the Press Centre of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), PDP Chairman, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Prince Kayode Ogunnubu said the suspected gunmen on the campaign train of APC Governorship candidate, Pastor Ize- Iyamu Osagie along side the former national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole opened fire on supporters of PDP who wore PDP branded face caps.
He said those injured in the attack are currently battling for their lives at lrrua Specialist Hospital and nearby hospital in neigbouring Kogi State.
“As advocates for a free and fair, non violent election, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Inspector General of Police and all other appropriate authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to book.
“Furthermore, the All Progressives Congress (APC) should be made to put on hold all future plans of campaigning in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area till tension subsides, otherwise, Akoko-Edo people will be forced to resist and defend themselves if such ugly scenario ever played out again”
