A group known as Edo Continuity Network (ECN) has said the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has done well and deserves a second term in office in the forthcoming 2020 governorship election in the state.
The group was reacting to a statement credited to the Edo Peoples Movement (EPM) that Obaseki has not given account of stewardship hence shopping for his replacement.
A statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Zibiri Muhammed, said governor Obaseki has given a good account of his stewardship in the last three years and deserves a second term for consolidation, saying the EPM is acting out of frustration and desperation.
It would be recalled that EPM has issued a statement saying that Obaseki doesn’t deserve a second term and that the state chairman of the party, Anselm Ojezua should resign following the unabated crisis.
“The position of EPM depicts the obvious emptiness of the desperation of the group and the failure of their attempts to cause disaffection in APC, thereby re-establishing their selfish and evil agenda of siphoning the resources of the state for their inordinate ends,”.
Zibiri said on assumption of office, Obaseki clearly set out to serve the people with the available resources rather than committing such resources to service the personal interests of few politicians who have hitherto held various offices without meaningful impactful.
According to him, Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu have shown enough political determination and administrative competence as well as capacity to serve the people, adding that several awards including the teacher’s award are evidence of their service to the people.
On the call for Anselm Ojezua’s resignation, he said he has shown enough commitment and maturity and has succeeded in keeping the APC together despite unwholesome activities by some members .
He however called on the group to allow the state chairman to concentrate and prepare APC for 2020 governorship election in the state.
