The Edo State executive of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has been dissolved. The State party executive was dissolved at the 2020 State Congress on today in Benin City, the State Capital.
The development followed a motion that was moved by a former Commissioner in the State, Mr Akhere Ugbesia, a delegate from Edo Central Senatorial district.
The motion was seconded by Mr Nosa Adams, delegate from Egor Local government Area of the State without any counter motion.
Consequently, Mr Dan Orbih chairman stepped down as the State Chairman of the party along with 16 other members of the executives.
In valedictory speech before the voting began in alphabetical order, the former Chairman of PDP, Dan Orbih, thanked the delegates and members of the party for the cooperation and support his executive enjoyed in the past four years.
The Chief Electoral Officer and Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, represented by his political Adviser, Mr Babatunde Oduyoye, said a total of 1563 delegates were accredited for the poll.
He announced that six Contestants out of the 17 postilions in the election are returned unopposed including the state treasurer where Mr. Benjamin Ehilenboadiaye of Esan West was returned unopposed.
A breakdown of the figures indicates that Edo South Senatorial district, has 544 delegates, followed by 534 delegates from Edo North Senatorial district in addition to 487 delegates from Edo Central Senatorial district will elect the new PDP chairman of the state.
Edo State PDP Congresses was suspended indefinitely few weeks ago by litigation by some aggrieved members of the party during its Ward Congress.
The party returned back to the ballot Week last Saturday after the court order aborted the Congress, gave the party a clean bill of health to conduct the election into the 17 positions.
Mr Lucky Igbinedion, former of governor of the State and his father, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion were however absent at the State party Congress.
