There was commotion Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the residence of a former Secretary to the Edo State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as what was well advertised as “glorious exit” from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP turned tragic as a man known as Hon John Aimola slumped just as he officially announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Recall that a section of the social media team of the former Secretary to the Edo state government had gone viral Wednesday about Thursday’s event of what they tagged ‘A Glorious Exit’, heralding the resignation of Ize-Iyamu from the Party he joined in 2014 and gifted the position of the Edo state Director General of Goodluck Jonathan 2015 Presidential Election Campaign Organisation and the Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2016 election .
Aimola who was from Igwe-saleh in Ward 6 of Owan East Local Government Area was said to have protested that some corrections be made in the spelling of his name according to an eye witness who spoke to SUMMIT NIGERIA on the condition of anonymity.
He said: “At the event at POI’s residence, he protested against the mistake in his name (Not adding DR to his name) then slumped and died”.
While some said he died on the spot another witness told our correspondent that he died at the hospital he was rushed to after he slumped.
Meanwhile, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Thursday, officially resigned from the PDP and joined the APC.
He assured Edo people that he and his supporters mean well for them adding that they decided to move to the APC so as to be able to positively affect their lives.
He pointed out that they were not going to APC to join any faction, but strengthen the party for the good of the people.
“We are in APC to strengthen the party. APC is not a strange place for us. It is home. We are in APC with the best of intentions; not to join factions but to help strengthen the party and give our full allegiance to those in charge, those in authority and not to undermine the powers that be. We did not join to fight or engage in name calling. Our coming is to bring stability to politics in Edo, bring development to our people and bring peace. God is with us. Our people are with us. The days ahead will bring more blessings to our land.”
