A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2020 Edo state governorship election, Engr. Gideon Ikhine has assured PDP supporters in the state that the party has put strategies in place to forestall rigging in the September governorship election and make their votes count.
Ikhine stated this while making a remark after collecting his governorship nomination forms at the PDP secretariat Thursday in Benin City.
The governorship hopeful assured that the PDP is very formidable in the state noting that the recent confessions of some politicians in the state attests to the widely held believe that the All Progressives Congress, APC has been exercising a stolen mandate.
“Every PDP member in all the wards has been educated on how to secure their votes. The votes of the people will count in this coming election for the first time”.
While describing as overwhelming the support he’s been enjoying from the people towards the realisation of his ambition of becoming the Governor of Edo in the next election, Engr. Ikhine said, “I’m happy that God has raised men and women, including my family who are happy and appreciate what I’m doing and decided to support me for the purchase of my nomination form”.
He said with the passion God has put in him that he would realise his vision for all Edo people.
On what qualified him for the governorship seat in Edo State, he said he is mentally and physically prepared AND that above all he has the vision to govern the state, adding that many are contesting not because they have the vision but due to ambition.
On the arrangements being put in place by the party to ensure a free, fair and transparent primaries, Engr. Ikhine said that is where PDP comes first, stating that the party have been very consistent with the indirect primaries with clear guidelines adding that it will be an open election where you cannot rig as all votes will count.
“The modalities for the primaries will come at the appropriate time when the party leaders will call all the aspirants to let us know what their plans are. Here every one will now express his views. I believe our party will respect justice and make sure everyone is represented to get justice. That is what foster our unity and gives us progress into taking over the state”.
