The Honourable Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah MNIM has said that the capital city of Delta state, Asaba is a peaceful city, adding that every single visitor should feel free to move around and also visit tourist sites in the state.
Mr. Ukah stated this at the maiden press briefing of the 21st African Senior Athletes Championship holding in Asaba from August 1st to 5th where he represented the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Ukah said, “I can assure you of one thing, that when you are in Asaba, you don’t have to think much. It is a place that you will be happy to be. For us as a government, we are doing this as our legacy so that our children will enjoy, Deltans and Nigerians at large will enjoy and remember us in the nearest future and beyond”
Also speaking during the briefing, Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, LOC, Mr. Solomon Ogba said that the competition would not just be for athletes but one with entertainment, as there will be interludes of music on the go at all sessions taking cognizance of the conducive and memorable environment.
He disclosed that over 52 countries will be present and that more than 90 percent of athletes had arrived.
Speaking further Ogba stated that the 5 days event will be aired live to homes through live feeds that will be supplied to all Television stations in the country as the Championship is the number one trending news in Nigeria, saying, “we will be competing for the airways at this time as the European Championship will be on at about same time.”
