The Chairman of Edo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Comrade Ahmed Aigbona has declared his intention to 22 the presidency of the Sports Association due next July.
Aigbona who spoke with journalists at the NUJ Press Centre, Benin City, Friday said his decision was borne out of the burning desire to return SWAN to its glorious past as a tool to promote the welfare of professional sports writers and sports development in Nigeria.
The Edo SWAN Chairman said he was going to draw from his wealth of experience as two-term state chairman of the body to reposition the association at the national level with a view to promoting the tenents of dialogue as opposed to dictatorship and consensus as opposed to imposition.
He said that when elected as SWAN president he would promote equality of membership by ensuring that every registered SWAN member is made to feel a sense of belonging.
Ahmed whose declaration for the SWAN presidency was well received by sports writers in Edo state, used the opportunity to solicit support of every member of the association for his project, assuring that he would not disappoint them.
He disclosed that part of the challenges that had hampered the development of the association in the past were principally the
election of none active sports writers at the helm of affairs.
