Spanish Football President, Luis Rubiales has said that he won’t resign as the president, accusing World cup winner Jenni Hermoso of lying by saying the kiss was not mutual.
Rubiales mentioned this on Saturday, August 26, amid pressure from the government and the Spanish Football for him to step down as the president.
According to SkySports, Rubiales has used his federation to accuse Hermoso of lying by saying she did not consent to being kissed by him.
The federation also threatened legal action to defend Rubiales.
Rubiales during the press conference shocked everyone when he said, “I’m not going to quit”, “I won’t Resign, which he repeated five times.
He further claimed the kiss was “mutual” and “with consent” at a meeting of the Spanish football federation’s general assembly on Friday.
He also mentioned that “the kiss was the same I could give one of my daughters.”
Reacting to the recent out play, Hermoso and her teammates vowed not to play for their country again – days after winning the World Cup for the first time.
In a statement on Friday, Hermoso said, “in no moment” did she consent to the kiss.
Recall, SummitNigeria reported that Jenni Hermoso was kissed by president of the RFEF Luis Rubiales during the FIFA Womens World Cup 2023 Final football match.
In the video clip trending, Rubiales grabbed Hermoso and kissed her on the lips during the awards ceremony following Spain’s 1-0 victory over England on Sunday, August 20, in Sydney, Australia.
According to the Spanish Football President, Hermoso had lifted him up in celebration and he asked her for “a little kiss?” and she said yes.
He added that he would defend his honour in court against politicians, including two ministers, who called his kiss an act of “sexual violence”.
Meanwhile during the conference, Protesters held red cards outside the Spanish Soccer Federation, all asking Rubiales to resign.
