FIFA has suspended Spanish Football President, Luis Rubiales for 90 days from all football-related activities as it investigates an incident in which he kissed player Jenni Hermoso after Spain’s Women’s World Cup final on Sunday, August 20.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the disciplinary committee, Chief Jorge Ivan Palacio, on Saturday, August 26, noting that Rubiales suspension from national and international activities takes effect immediately from Saturday.
The statement read in part, “The RFEF and the President, given the seriousness of the content of the press release from the FUTPRO Union, will initiate the corresponding legal actions.”
“Where there is rule of law … opinions are counteracted with facts and evidence, and lies are rebutted in court.”
“The RFEF and the President will show each of the lies that are spread either by someone on behalf of the player or, if applicable, by the player herself,” it said.
Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales at an extraordinary meeting of its general assembly said that, “they are not trying to carry out justice, that’s fake. A social assassination is being carried out on me. They are trying to kill me.
“Fake feminism does not seek justice, doesn’t seek the truth, doesn’t care about people. I repeat, they are preparing an execution.
“To these people who have said this about me, that have accused me, that are trying to kill me publicly… I’m going to defend myself, I’m going to defend myself like every other Spaniard should do in the courts.
“I’m going to take action against them. I’m not going to resign! I am not going to resign! I am not going to resign! I am not going to resign! I am not going to resign!”
Hermoso on Friday, said she did not consent to the kiss but her country’s football federation (RFEF) announced an intention to take legal action over the comments made by the forward over Rubiales.
However, FIFA also ordered Rubiales and the Spanish FA not to contact the World Cup winner or anyone close to her.
