The Confederation of African Football, CAF has confirmed that the second leg of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifier fixture between the Super Eagles and Libya, scheduled for Tuesday night, will not hold.
This came after the Nigerians’ boycott of the fixture in protest against what they described as the inhumane treatment they suffered in the North African country.
“The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifier fixture between Libya and Nigeria will not take place as scheduled tonight. The matter will be referred to the competent CAF bodies,” CAF statement on Tuesday read.
In response to the controversies, CAF had on Monday, stated that it had launched an investigation into the incident after the Libya Football Federation alleged sabotage and threatened legal action against Nigeria.
In a statement on Monday night, the LFF condemned Super Eagle’s decision to withdraw from the fixture, accusing the Nigerian Football Federation of failing to cooperate in organising the match.
The Super Eagles cited safety concerns after being stranded at Al Abraq Airport for over 13 hours on Sunday.
